Job Title: Clinical Director, HEM/HCT

Position Summary and Key Responsibilities

Plans, directs, coordinates and leads the adult and pediatric Hematology and Hematopoietic Transplant continuum of care.  Provides strategic leadership and vision to the Hematology / HCT Program which leads the field as one of the world’s largest and most successful transplant centers.  Responsible for achieving optimal service, quality, and clinical excellence that aligns with the mission, vision and values of the organization.  Directs operational aspects ensuring financial compliance and meeting all legal and regulatory standards, 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. In collaboration with the Chair of the Department of Hematology and HCT, execute strategic vision for all phases of the clinical transplant program at City of Hope.  Collaborates with the Chief Nursing Officer to represent a national presence with the Oncology Nursing Society, National Marrow Donor Program and other national associations and groups.  Manages the organizational infrastructure to support 550 transplant patients per year and 94 inpatient beds. Provides leadership for nursing practice across the inpatient and out-patient continuum among the various professional nursing roles required for this service. Clinical oversight is inclusive of the pediatric program and clinical areas.

Essential Functions:

Directs and leads the supervision of human and material resources as well as strategic planning, budgeting, consistently evaluating for patient safety and regulatory compliance (CAP, DHS. FACT, TJC, and others) for all areas of responsibility. The Director hires, coaches,  and develops staff and management personnel to ensure the delivery of quality care consistent with the scope of the discipline and adherence to professional practice standards. Consistently evaluates performance and competencies of staff and delivers coaching and counseling as warranted.

Strategic leadership and vision to position COH as a leader in HCT transplant.

Develop and evaluate programs for efficiency and clinical effectiveness. Supports the staff in all projects that will have positive outcome on patient care.

Promote and educate staff about the forces of magnetism and ensure alignment of practice is commiserate with evidence based practice.

Continuously reviews and executes strategic plan for Heme/HCT/Pediatric service using LEAN/Six Sigma strategies for problem solving framework.

Leader of the inpatient and outpatient continuum of care for Hematology / HCT and pediatrics.

Develop, maintain and achieve program operational objectives to enhance program’s national position.

Budget development and ongoing monitoring of expenses and revenue to meet budget revenue and expense target.

Participates as needed in HCT contract negotiations.

Recruit, develop and retain key talent.

Provide leadership and mentoring to develop staff.

Motivate, influence and foster culture change with staff colleagues, peers, physicians, other department directors and stake holders in the organization to support the mission and core values.

Minimum Education and Skills Required for Consideration:

• MSN required.

• 8 to 10 years nursing experience required.

Strong clinical nursing foundation in Heme/HCT in-patient/out-patient practice.

• Previous leadership experience and knowledge of regulatory and certification requirements and well as contract requirements as an NMDP service provider is essential.

• Minimum of 5 years in nursing leadership inclusive  to HCT and Pediatrics.

• Proven track record of strategic programmatic leadership.
