Job Description

Qualifications: Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of New Jersey and Certified as an Advanced Practice Nurse in the State of New Jersey required.  Master's Degree required.  Three (3) years of related nursing experience required, including one (1) year of experience as an Advanced Practice Nurse.  Demonstrates effective leadership competencies in order to manage the day-to-day activities of the department.  One (1) year of supervisory/managerial experience preferred.  Experience with Workman’s Compensation, Employee Health Screening, FMLA protocols preferred.  BLC (CPR) and ACLS required.  Computer literacy required.

Responsibilities: The Supervising Advanced Practice Nurse (SPAN) is a skilled health provider who through a written collaborative practice agreement with a physician is credentialed through the Medical Staff Office. As a member of the Medical Staff the APN demonstrates standards of professional practice that includes ethical decision making, job activities related to quality assessment/improvement, self – evaluation, leadership, and research.  The APN is self- directed and purposeful in seeking necessary knowledge and skills to develop and maintain competency.

The Supervising APN in Employee Health Services is responsible for directing and coordinating the overall activities of the Employee Health Services of University Hospital.  Is responsible for daily operations and administration of Employee Health Services.  Supervises staff of Employee Health Services.  The Supervising APN is accountable for assuring quality medical care to UH employees by performing comprehensive health assessments, differential diagnosis, and prescribing pharmacologic and non – pharmacologic treatments, as well as addressing the behavioral aspects of illness and disease.  The Supervising APN ensures that personnel working at University Hospital are in compliance with Federal, State, Local, TJC, New Jersey State Department of Health and all other regulatory agency requirements, standards and regulations.
