POSITION SUMMARY: Provides planned, skilled forensic nursing care for patients in the critical period of the Emergency Department services. Provides continuous patient care in forensic services and resources for patient in the emergency department. Required to work in emergency department when not with forensic patient.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITES/FUNCTIONS TO INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO:
Promotes the facility mission, vision and values by effectively communicating them to others. Considers mission, vision and values in developing services, standards and practice
Ensures that care is delivered to each patient in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act of the State of Texas, and ANA Standards of Clinical Nursing Practice.
Supports the philosophy, goals and objectives of DHR and the department.
Provides effective and efficient patient care management.
Maintains professional competence by participating in continuing education and other learning experiences.
Effectively organizes time, equipment, supplies for forensic patient care in ED and in SAFE H.A.V.E.N exam unit.
Keeps all equipment and SAFE H.A.V.E.N. unit in excellent working condition.
Makes sure unit is stocked with all supplies, clean, and SAFE for forensic patients.
Always maintains chain of custody for all evidence collected.
Finishes all documentation and seals evidence collection in timely manner.
Performs safe and individualized nursing care for the patient in the ED area.
Performs thorough ED patient assessment prior to discharge of the patient.
Adheres to hospital/unit policies, procedures, protocols and guidelines.
Responds in a timely manner to meet the needs of the patient and physician.
Demonstrates ability to adapt to varied age-specific patient populations.
Supports and promotes excellence in customer/guest relations.
Supports and promotes the organization’s Infection Control Program.
Supports and promotes the organization’s Safety Program.
Supports and promotes the organization’s Risk Management Program.
Demonstrates maturity and accountability for job performance.
High School/GED required
Graduate of accredited school of nursing required
Current registered nurse’s license in the State of Texas required
Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner certification
Current BLS certification
ACLS and PALS certification within 12 months of hire.
TNCC within 18 months of hire.
ENPC Recommended within 18 months of hire
Must be able to be sensitive to cultural and bilingual issues.
Good written and verbal communication skills required.
Ability to read, write and speak English required
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with all levels of nursing, administration, and physicians
One (1) – two (2) years of Emergency Room experience required.
Require to rotate on call schedule.
Require to help in emergency department during shift when not with forensic patient.
Require constant and frequent judgment and response, occasionally in response to disasters or emergencies, actual events or drills.
Exhibits tact, enthusiasm, and patience.
Must have excellent customer service skills.
High degree of competency/experience in general.
