The Infection Control Director serves as a resource person for the hospital and community through direct consultation, recommendations and educational offerings. Serves patients by managing staff; developing and enforcing infection control policies and services to provide a safe and healthy environment. Responsible for the planning, development, coordination, implementation and evaluation of the hospital wide infection control program. Collaborates with and acts as a consultant for the department managers and staff. Advises implements and evaluates measures necessary to prevent the spread of infections within the hospital and community.
Promotes the facility mission, vision and values by effectively communicating them to others. Considers mission, vision and values in developing services, standards and practices
Acts as educator , resource and consultant for all DHR facilities
Coordinates, educates and trains Infection Control Staff
Develops and participates in surveillance activities
Knows surveillance techniques, knowledge of infection control and Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines for nosocomial infections.
Working knowledge of microbiology, infectious diseases and disease transmissions.
Knows outbreak investigation techniques based on organism and mode of transmission.
Reports communicable diseases to the state as required by law.
Interprets and develops infection control policies and procedures, reviews, updates according to TJC and CMS requirements.
Represents DHR during regulatory agency inspections of requests (JCAHO, OSHA, Texas Department of State Health Services).
Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; benchmarking state-of-the-art practices; participating in professional societies.
Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
Degree in a Healthcare Related Field; Nursing Medicine, Laboratory Services
Five (5) years leadership and hospital experience with Infection Control required.
Completion of a basic training program for infection control
Knowledge in surveillance techniques
Knowledge of Microbiology, infectious diseases and disease transmission.
Knowledge of guidelines and recommendations of non-regulatory agencies (CDC, DSHS,CMS, etc)
Able to communicate effectively (verbal and written).
Basic computer skills : Word , able to operate office equipment
