Our nationally recognized physicians, nurses and other health professionals combine their expertise and skill with a keen understanding of the needs of expectant mothers and families.
Summary of Essential Job Duties:
The Labor and Delivery Allied Health Professional is responsible and accountable for the application of the nursing process, supervision of clinical practice, research involvement, consultative services, inter and intradepartmental liaison, education, leadership, and patient care management across the health care continuum from preventative, acute care through discharge. The Certified Nurse Midwife practice incorporates both independent decision making abilities and collaboration with the board certified/eligible physician to provide expert care to the patients. The AHP is responsible to the medical director and the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) and functions as an integral part of the medical team. The Certified Nurse Midwife practices under the Board of Registered Nursing California code of Regulations, Title 16. Article 6, Section 1460-1466, utilizing Certified Nurse Midwife Protocols and Procedures. The Certified Nurse Midwife practices under the BRN California code of Regulations, Title 16 Article 8, Section 1480-1485, utilizing Certified Nurse Midwife Standardized Procedures. These are developed in a collaborative effort within the area of specialty, Department of Nursing and the Hospital Administration, incorporating CSHS goals and represent an interdisciplinary approach to patient care delivery.
The Allied Health Professional provides individualized care upholding CSHS philosophies including but not limited to care consistent with Nursing Standards of Care/Practice, the Plan for Provision of Nursing Care, the Plan for Provision of Patient Care, the Performance Improvement Plan. the Patient Education Plan, the Professional Organization Standards, Code of Conduct, and hospital and departmental policies and procedures. He/She enhances competency skills through continuing education programs. He/She demonstrates the ability to provide care to special patient population and those with diverse cultural background. He/She performs all job duties with sensitivity and attention to age and developmental milestones of the population(s) served which may include neonate. infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric. He/She is able to identify the ability of the age specific population served to follow direction/instructions and give consent. He/She can identify safety concerns and institute measures to provide safe environment and provide appropriate assessment. Intervention, and evaluation of patients with consideration of developmental milestones in the population served.

Qualification Requirements/Preferences:
Education Certifications/Licensure Experience Physical Abilities Educational Requirements:
Graduated of an accredited Nurse Midwife program approved by the BRN as defined in Section 1482, Nurse Practice Act, and Business and Professional Code
Graduate level preparation preferred.
License/Certification/Registration Requirements:
Current State of California Registered Nurse and Nurse Midwife License.
Desirable to be certified with ACNM American College of Nurse Midwives
Experience:
Minimum of 1 year as an experienced Staff Nurse in Labor & Delivery,
Minimum of 1 year in Advanced practice position preferred.
