JOB SUMMARY:

The Nurse Practitioner is an expert in pathophysiology, physical assessment and diagnosis, pharmacology and exercises authority in health promotion and disease management. The NP functions as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team and provides a wide range of patient services to a specific patient population across the continuum of health care. By utilizing the nursing process, scientific reasoning and critical problem solving, NPs practice within the scope of responsibilities and prescriptive authority defined by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing and the Medical Staff Executive at the Penn State Hershey Medical Center.
Responsible for the coordination of clinical care and educational needs of adult patients requiring circulatory support and transplant. This would include Ventricular Assist Devices (VAD), Total Artificial Hearts (TAH) and the use of Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) for the treatment of cardiogenic shock and to provide care, education and social services to patients across the continuum of care from medical management of heart failure to mechanical circulatory support to heart transplant.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s Degree required.
Pennsylvania Board Certification as a CRNP.
3 years of experience with cardiac transplant and/or mechanical circulatory support patients in the inpatient and outpatient care environments required.
Certification as a Clinical Transplant Coordinator required or must obtain within 18 months from date of hire.
ACLS and BLS certification required.
Must have demonstrated effective skills in consultation.
