Facility Profile:

Located on a lush tropical campus, our flagship hospital, 1,107-bed Florida Hospital Orlando, serves as the major tertiary facility for much of the Southeast, the Caribbean and South America. Florida Hospital Orlando houses one of the largest Emergency Departments and largest cardiac catheterization labs in the country. We are already one of the busiest hospitals in the nation, providing service excellence to more than 32,000 inpatients and 125,000 outpatients each year.

Department Profile:

The Advanced Heart Failure Unit is a 40-bed surgical progressive care unit located on the 71h floor of the Ginsburg Tower. The unit encompasses an all nursing model with a three to one patient ratio. The patient popUlation is comprised of advanced heart failure, pre and post heart transplant and pre and post left ventricular assist device (LVAD). Our team is highly engaged and we pride ourselves on teamwork and provided safe and effected patient cantered care. Our team works closely with the transplant physicians, physican assistance and nurse practitioners. We are pleased to be part of the Florida Hospital Heart Transplant program that was established in 2012. This past December the transplant team completed their 100th heart transplant. We are proud to be one of the few specialty units that cares for these complex patients.

Work Hours/Shifts:

One 12 hour shift, 7:00am-7:00pm

Job Summary:

The Senior Nurse Technician is a professional nursing student entering the final semester of nursing education. The Senior Nurse Technician is one who assists the nursing staff in the delivery of patient care by performing specific tasks under the direction of an RN to identified age specific groups. Utilizing the nursing process (assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating) in achieving the goals of the nursing department. Adheres to the Florida Hospital Corporate Compliance Plan and to all rules and regulations of all applicable local, state and federal agencies and accrediting bodies. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.

Knowledge, Skills, Education, & Experience Required:

Entering the last semester prior to graduation of an accredited professional nurse education program in which the student is ATT eligible. Proof of satisfactory completion of all course work, documented skills and continued enrollment in Professional Nurse Education.

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Required:

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
May use the title ‘Senior Nurse Technician’ until ATT (Authorization to Test) is granted. The employee may remain as a Senior Nurse Tech only the above length of time and only if a position is available and the employee has satisfactory evaluations.

Job Responsibilities:

Performs properly and legibly documents and reports all procedures in accordance with department policy.
Obtains a nursing history. Evaluates for age-appropriate behavior, motor skills and physiological norms of the patient. Assesses for signs of abuse or neglect. Assesses and interprets diagnostic data relative to patient age and condition. Reports abnormalities to RN.
Assists in identifying needs and developing/modifying plan of care.
Performs treatments according to policy and procedure. Functions appropriately in clinical emergencies. Evaluates effectiveness of interventions. Investigates questionable situations.
Evaluates patients’ developmental level, identifies increased physical/emotional dependency needs and evaluates availability of support system consistent with the age of the patient served. Identifies the need for patient teaching and utilizes each opportunity for teaching on a planned or spontaneous basis.
Participates in practice changes as a result of performance improvement activities. Demonstrates accurate documentation and monitoring of activities as needed. Supports quality standards and initiatives set by the department.
Follows CDC isolation guidelines, demonstrates appropriate use of PPE, performs handwashing according to policy and enforces safety regulations.
Exhibits desire to learn and upgrade nursing skills. Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure the smooth operation of the department or unit.
