Nurse Technician – Emergency Department- Apopka – Part Time

Apopka seeks to hire a Nurse Technician who will embrace our mission to extend the healing ministry of Christ.

Facility Profile:

Florida Hospital Apopka is conveniently located in the heart of downtown Apopka, a thriving, growing community about 20 miles northwest of Orlando. We are proud to deliver the foremost in service and medical technology to our neighbors and are soon opening a brand new hospital in 2017 which will feature 120 private rooms, advanced surgical suites, a diagnostic Cath Lab, and other high demand services. At Florida Hospital Apopka, our mission is to extend the healing ministry of Christ to our community by providing the most advanced care in the area within a compassionate, caring environment that places our patients first.

Department Profile:

The Emergency Department is a full-service 16-bed unit that averages 90 patients per day, with approximately 15 daily admissions. Particularly difficult cases may be transferred to one of the other Florida Hospital facilities for complex medical treatment and procedures. This state-of-the-art facility is equipped with the latest technology, including computerized charting and streptokinase infusion.

Work Hours/Shifts:

2/12’s a week; 7:00am- 7:00pm or 11:00am- 11:00pm based on need

Job Summary:

The Nurse Technician is one who assists the nursing staff in the delivery of patient care by performing specific tasks under the direction of an RN to identified age specific groups. Utilizing the nursing process (assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating) in achieving the goals of the nursing department / surgical services. Adheres to the Florida Hospital Corporate Compliance Plan and to all rules and regulations of all applicable local, state and federal agencies and accrediting bodies. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.

Knowledge, Skills, Education, & Experience Required:

Successfully completed first semester of an ASN or BSN accredited professional nursing program
Proof of continued enrollment in an ASN or BSN accredited professional nursing program, with no break in enrollment to exceed 1 year or, Successful graduation from an ASN or BSN accredited professional nursing program

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Required:

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Up to 1 year after graduation, may use the title Nurse Technician after successful graduation from an ASN or BSN accredited professional nursing program until: ATT (Authorization to Test) is received and/or Failed NCLEX twice
The employee may remain as a Nurse Tech only the above length of time and only if a position is available and the employee has satisfactory evaluations.

Job Responsibilities:

Demonstrates through behavior Florida Hospital’s Core Values of Integrity, Compassion, Balance, Excellence, Stewardship and Teamwork as outlined in the organization’s Performance Excellence Program

Performs properly and legibly documents and reports all procedures in accordance with department policy.
Obtains a nursing history. Evaluates for age-appropriate behavior, motor skills and physiological norms of the patient. Assesses for signs of abuse or neglect. Assesses and interprets diagnostic data relative to patient age and condition. Reports abnormalities to RN.
Assists in identifying needs and developing/modifying plan of care. In Surgical Services: selects supplies and equipment according to Doctor Preference Cards (DPC) and needs of patient based on Pre-operative assessment.
Performs treatments according to policy and procedure. Provides patient care appropriate to age, mobility, acuity and culture. Functions appropriately in clinical emergencies. Evaluates effectiveness of interventions. Investigates questionable situations.
Evaluates patients’ developmental level, identifies increased physical/emotional dependency needs and evaluates availability of support system consistent with the age of the patient served.
Identifies the need for patient teaching and utilizes each opportunity for teaching on a planned or spontaneous basis
Participates in practice changes as a result of performance improvement activities. Demonstrates accurate documentation and monitoring of activities as needed. Supports quality standards and initiatives set by the department.
Follows CDC isolation guidelines, appropriately uses PPE, performs handwashing according to policy and enforces safety regulations. Strictly adheres to all infection control practices and diligently follows aseptic technique. Takes immediate corrective action for breaks in technique.
