Health Unit Coordinator – Surgical PCU – Orlando

Florida Hospital Orlando seeks to hire Health Unit Coordinator who will embrace our mission to extend the healing ministry of Christ.

Facility Profile:

Located on a lush tropical campus, our flagship hospital, 1,107-bed Florida Hospital Orlando, serves as the major tertiary facility for much of the Southeast, the Caribbean and South America. Florida Hospital Orlando houses one of the largest Emergency Departments and largest cardiac catheterization labs in the country. We are already one of the busiest hospitals in the nation, providing service excellence to more than 32,000 inpatients and 125,000 outpatients each year.

Department Profile:

Department Profile: A 28 bed PCU/med-tele aggregated Baker Act unit. An emphasis is placed on the Baker Acted patient however, medical, PCU and telemetry level patients are also admitted to the unit.

Work Hours/Shifts:

7:00am – 7:00pm / Three 12 hour shifts

Job Summary:

The Health Unit Coordinator under the direct supervision of the Clinical Nurse Manager or Charge Nurse, performs general non-clinical duties and specific services necessary to expedite the efficient functioning of the nursing unit consistent with the philosophy, goals, policies and procedures in the nursing department and hospital administration. Adheres to the Florida Hospital Corporate Compliance Plan and to all rules and regulations of all applicable local, state and federal agencies and accrediting bodies. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all. *LHCH AND LHUC refer to Lead HUC competency.

Knowledge, Skills, Education, & Experience Required:

Sufficient knowledge of English and spelling to perform various non-clinical duties.
Sufficient knowledge of English and spelling to perform various non-clinical duties.
Neat and legible handwriting.
Knowledgeable of medical terms.
For USMT, successful completion of the Florida Hospital Monitor Technician training program or equivalent.
Successful completion of Florida Hospital Health Unit Coordinator test.
Completion of Health Unit Coordinator Course or recent hospital experience as a Health Unit Coordinator.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Preferred)
High school graduate or G.E.D. equivalent (Preferred)

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Required:

NAHUC Certification (Preferred)

Job Responsibilities:

Demonstrates through behavior Florida Hospital’s Core Values of Integrity, Compassion, Balance, Excellence, Stewardship and Teamwork as outlined in the organization’s Performance Excellence Program

Identifies, prioritizes and transcribes all types of physician orders by completing the patient Kardex, proper care map, making out necessary requisitions.
Notifies and calls other departments or physicians when necessary and places appropriate information on the chart, chart forms, computer and electronic record.
Accesses the medication room to place meds in a secure area upon medication arrival to the floor.
Performs indirect patient care duties related to admission, transfer and discharge.
Posts pertinent patient data timely.
Responds appropriately in emergency situations
Interacts with patients appropriate to age, acuity and culture.
Participates in practice changes as a result of performance improvement activities. Accurately documents and monitors activities as needed. Supports quality standards and initiatives set by the department.
Exhibits desire to learn and upgrade skills. Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure the smooth operation of the department or unit.
