Department Profile

The Spine Institute is a 36-bed Med/Tele unit newly designed to provide excellent care for our adult patients that are recovering from orthopedic or spine surgeries and may require cardiac monitoring. The unit is modeled to be a center of excellence, has a state of the art rehab area on the unit, and large private patient rooms all designed for the nursing team’s work flow. Our team is actively engaged in developing best practices focused on taking surgical nursing and the patient’s experience to the next level.

Full Time: 3/12s 7pm-7am

Job Summary

As a Health Unit Coordinator with Florida Hospital Altamonte, you will make providing service your priority while caring for the whole person in a faith-based atmosphere. The Health Unit Coordinator under the direct supervision of the Clinical Nurse Manager or Charge Nurse, performs general non-clinical duties and specific services necessary to expedite the efficient functioning of the nursing unit consistent with the philosophy, goals, policies and procedures in the nursing department and hospital administration. Adheres to the Florida Hospital Corporate Compliance Plan and to all rules and regulations of all applicable local, state and federal agencies and accrediting bodies. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all. *LHCH AND LHUC refer to Lead HUC competency.

Knowledge, Skills, Education, and Experience Required:

* Sufficient knowledge of English and spelling to perform various non-clinical duties.

* Neat and legible handwriting.

* Knowledgeable of medical terms.

* For USMT, successful completion of the Florida Hospital Monitor Technician training program or equivalent.

* Completion of Health Unit Coordinator Course or recent hospital experience as a Health Unit Coordinator.

* Successful completion of Florida Hospital Health Unit Coordinator test

* Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (preferred)

* High school graduate or G.E.D. equivalent (preferred)

Licensure, Certification or Registration Required:

* NAHUC Certification (preferred)

Job Responsibilities:

* Demonstrates through behavior Florida Hospital’s Core Values of Integrity, Compassion, Balance, Excellence, Stewardship and Teamwork as outlined in the organization’s Performance Excellence Program.

* Identifies, prioritizes and transcribes all types of physician orders by completing the patient Kardex, proper care map, making out necessary requisitions.

* Notifies and calls other departments or physicians when necessary and places appropriate information on the chart, chart forms, computer and electronic record.

* Accesses the medication room to place meds in a secure area upon medication arrival to the floor.

* Performs indirect patient care duties related to admission, transfer and discharge.

* Posts pertinent patient data timely.

* Responds appropriately in emergency situations

* Interacts with patients appropriate to age, acuity and culture.

* Participates in practice changes as a result of performance improvement activities. Accurately documents and monitors activities as needed. Supports quality standards and initiatives set by the department.

* Exhibits desire to learn and upgrade skills. Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure the smooth operation of the department or unit.
